The Story Behind Roper & Hide Co.

The name Roper & Hide Co. is more than a business name—it carries the story of my family, my heritage, and the values that shaped who I am.

“Roper” is my maiden name, honoring the family that introduced me to the Western lifestyle and Virginia’s horse community. It represents generations of memories made around horses, horse shows, and the people who taught me to appreciate authentic Western living.

“Hide” represents my love for genuine leather, timeless craftsmanship, and products made to be carried for years—not seasons. Like the people who inspire this business, quality leather only gets better with time, telling a story with every mile and every memory.

Long before Roper & Hide Co. became a boutique, it was a family story written over generations of horses, hard work, and a love for the Western way of life.

My Momma, Diane Roper, along with my late grandparents, Ray and Julia Melton, introduced both my dad, Mike Roper, and me to the Western lifestyle and Virginia’s horse community. Through countless days spent at horse shows, around the barn, and surrounded by horses, they cultivated in our family a deep appreciation for hard work, craftsmanship, and traditions that continue to inspire me today.

Alongside my brother, Adam Roper, our family has remained closely connected to Virginia’s horse community for generations. Those experiences shaped not only my love for Western living, but also my appreciation for genuine craftsmanship and products built to last.

While my Western roots were shaped by the Roper and Melton families, I was equally blessed by the love and guidance of my Mom, Christy Robertson, and my stepdad, James Robertson. They instilled in me the importance of integrity, honesty, hard work, compassion, and treating people with kindness and respect.

My Mom, Christy, is a talented artist whose creativity inspired my own appreciation for art, design, and the joy of creating beautiful things. Her influence continues to shape the way I see craftsmanship and the thoughtful details that make each piece special.

James “Jim” Robertson, a talented musician who performed live, inspired my lifelong love of music. Through him, I was introduced to a wide variety of musical styles and artists, teaching me that some of life’s greatest memories are made with the people we love—and that music becomes the soundtrack to our lives.

Together, the values, creativity, and passions they shared with me continue to guide every decision I make and are woven into the heart of Roper & Hide Co.

My Husband & Our Children

Our family has grown through both marriage and birth, and I couldn't image our story any other way. Alongside my daughters, I've been blessed with wonderful stepsons who have become an important part of my life. Together, our children have filled our lives with laughter, strength, and countless memories, and now watching them raise families of their own is one of life's greatest blessings.

I have had the privilege of watching those same values continue through the next generation. Every bag and accessory is personally selected because it reflects the timeless Western style and lasting quality I grew up admiring. My hope is that the pieces you find here become part of your own story—accompanying you through everyday moments and life's biggest adventures.

At Roper & Hide Co., my goal is simple—to help women find pieces that feel as timeless and authentic as the stories behind them. Whether you’re headed to a horse show, a weekend getaway, or simply living everyday life, I hope you carry a bag you’ll love for years to come.
